1920s-1950s Fashion

The 1920s is the era in which fashion took a turn completely for women. Women began to take a different approach on how they dressed. The ending of World War 1 was the beginning of the "roaring 20s". The fashion before the 1920s was still a very set standard for women. They followed a strict fashion, where they always had to dress to impress. They always had to be completely dressed in full appropriate attire, for example if women went out in here pajamas it would have been scandalous. In the 1920s women decided to leave the perfect image of a woman behind, and began to wear more comfortable clothing. They began to wear short skits and even pants which before had always been considered men's clothing, and was not appropriate for women to wear. The process wasn't over night though it took a few years for it to become acceptable in society's eyes. In the early 1920s it was still frowned upon to see women wearing pants, but later in the mid 1920s it become more leant. It became more causal because of women entering the work force more often.

Women's wear became a big part of their role change in society, it became a new era of fashion. Society had a set standard where women still had to dress conservative in the early 1920s. It wasn't till later on that it changed because of the more modern idea. Before the World War 2, younger women found sports wear more appealing, the enjoyed shorter skirts, and even slits to allow women to move. They even began cutting their hair short to help break out of the conservative standard that was always imposed on them. They cut their hair short into the "bobbed" hair cut, that would fit closely with a cloche hat. They even enjoyed putting on make-up which wasn't as common before. The difference in clothing gave women the liberty and freedom that they always wanted. Short length dress allowed women to enjoy their time out at dances by allowing them to dance freely in heels. This change in attire gave freedom to clothes designers and allowed women to become self expressing though their clothing.

After World War 1 women began to take a liking to the boyish figure. Having a perfect shape body became unnecessary for women. The corset was discarded, women wanted to dress as comfortable as possible. Having a tight corset that didn't allow them to breath wasn't appealing to women anymore. Bloomers and other under garments where also replaced by a more modern fashion, they began making all in one lingerie. The boyish figure become popular, women no longer felt the need to exploit their famine body by using their undergarments to tighten their waste and making their hips look wider. They even enjoyed having more appearance of having a flat chest. Women felt it more empowering to have a more masculine image.

During the 1930s the fashion remained almost the same for women. Only because of the rescission did the fashion turn back into more of the conservative way. Women started falling back into their normal housewife standard. They felt that it would better fit the country to regress back into more of a conservative view. At the begging of world war two in 1939 they encouraged women to support the war. Since all the men went off to war women were called
